I’m looking to buy a pool table for the student lounge?
I’ve never bought one before and they all seem so different. I have no idea about price range either? Its going to be in the student lounge, so it will get some but probably not heavy use since we are a small school. How do you upkeep those things too?
For quality, you’re going to want a slate bed (the material under the cloth). This will keep the playing surface flat and it’s resistant to moisture and temperature so it will not bend and warp like wood.
The size is up to you. 7-footers are small and may be easier for beginners to learn on because the shots will be closer. 9-footers are tournament size and are great for more serious players. 8-footers are a compromise between the two. It is nice to have 5 feet around each side of the table so you always have room to swing your cue.
As far as maintenance, it’s mostly the cloth. I’d recommend not skimping on this either. The cheaper cloth I’ve played on tends to wear down faster. Simonis is the best, but if you don’t want to go for that, I’ve heard Velocity Pro is a good value to substitute.
Another great place to shop for Pool Table Upkeep products is Amazon. They have more than just books!
