Slatron is a brand of fiberboard and is not related to slate as hinted at in the name. This pressed fiberboard material is compacted under high pressure to form a hard rigged playing area. The pros are that it is light weight and cost effective. The drawbacks are that slatron is susceptible to warping if it gets wet, or is exposed to a high humidity environment. If warped, you will not be able to level the table.
