Building a new house and turning the garage into a game room …need help?
The garage will be 20×20. The question is I want to have a standard size pool table, air hockey table and a shuffleboard and a small table in corner for table games ….Flat screen will hang on wall. Oh and dart board on one wall …Can I fit all this comfortably in this room? I also have the dining room which we will not be using and it’s 11×12 that we can open and connect If nessecary. But if I can avoid doing that I would like to. Tyvm
I didn’t know where to put this question but I thought maybe someone has turned their garage into a game room and might have some idea on filling it with pool tables ect …ty!
I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to help me answer my question.
Sounds like a fun room with alot of stuff in it. I don’t know the sizes of the furniture, but if you do, get some graph paper(you know, the paper with small squares in a grid). Use 1/2″ equals 1 foot. Draw the outline of your room on it, include where the garage door, any windows, and door into the house. Next measure the furniture, using 1/2 inch equals 1 foot again, and draw on another piece of graph paper. Cut out those pieces and arrange on your garage/game room pattern. It’s a good way to figure out what will fit and what won’t and for furniture placement also. I did this when we built our last house so I could figure out ceiling light fixture placements. Remember to leave plenty of empty space around the big items for body/people movement.
As for your dining room, will it be on the same level as the garage, or down a step or two. Maybe you could have a large sliding glass door in that wall that you could open up when needed to add space to the game room. I assume the garage/game room will be finished off like any other room in your new house so it doesn’t look like a garage.
DH and I have built(had them built) 2 homes and it was fun planning and finishing, and everybody should have the experience at least once.
