pool table rising out of the floor?
I’m doing a bit of DIY at home and am planning to have a pool table rise out of my floor. I’m trying to work out what lifting mechanism I can use and what it’s called so I can shop for it. I was thinking of doing a simple motor and thread telescopic system. My problem is that I don’t know how I can get the motor to stop besides controlling it manually. Not having an auto-stop built in could prove quite dangerous so I was wondering if anyone has any ideas.
Maybe this is a common idea, but I’ve never seen one before. I have a pool table, and I’ve gone to quite a bit of effort in the past to get the top to be perfectly level. If this lift didn’t stop at exactly the right height each time, and on every corner, you risk the table not being perfectly level – something that will ruin your games of pool. People lean and lay on top of pool tables, too, while they make their shots, so this would have to be a very sturdy mechanism.
Without ever having seen one of these, I get the idea like old gas station lifts operated on. Maybe you could set your pool table on one of those, they were built to hold a car up so a pool table would seem to be easy by comparison. I still don’t know how level it’s going to raise.
Would people walk on the slate, when this pool table was lowered into the floor? That’s some of the things I wonder about this idea…
