I need help arranging this room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
I live in a 3,500 sq. foot home. You walk into a dining room, and then walk into a kitchen on the right (seperated by walls). Then, the entire living room is open floor planned. The stairs are right infront of you, that lead to a hall with bedrooms (left), and a loft-ish room on the right. The “loft” is an open floor plan, and has 3 walls (and a half wall). the rest is railing looking down into the living room. I HATE THE WAY THE LOFT IS ARRANGED!! Currently, there is a computer desk in the back right hand corner, and a pool table on the left. In between the desk and pool table is a tv. Across from the tv (on the half wall) is a three person couch, and a 2 person couch on the right of it. I really hate this arrangement. Its too open, and i like crunched, warm feeling rooms. CAN ANYONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW I CAN ARRANGE THIS ROOM DIFFERENTLY????
I’m gonna give you a couple of ideas and wish I could help you more, but would need to see the dimensions and configuration. I prefer more intimate spaces too. It seems you have two dilemmas really. With your open living room, you can divide this space into separate chords or gathering areas.
If the space is a long rectangle, for example, you can place the sofa width-wise across the room, add a sofa table or bookshelf to place lamps. It doesn’t have to be centered, the end can side up to an end table close to the wall for lamp cords to plug-in. If the room is square, you can turn pieces on an angle and use pockets created (if large enough area) to tuck in a desk, artifical tree w/uplights lampsplus.com has inexpensive plant lights, bookshelf that you can use for books and display, etc.. With your seating, keep it at a 90 degree angle to each other, just turn it on the diagonal
In the loft, if I understand your description correctly, the sofa is facing the TV and the pool table is in sight beyond that. Flip the sofa and TV around so the TV is against the wall and when people sit in the sofa, their backs are to the pool table. If you can add greens (artifical or real…trees, potted plants) and lighting in the shape of a triangle or diagonal, that room will come to life as well. A sofa table behind the largest couch would give you the opportunity for lamps, greens, just decorative scaping that would help cozy it up too. You didn’t mention art….but that would help too. Your center of interest in the loft is the TV wall. Place art on it, strengthen the interest of that wall. The opposite wall inherently becomes a focal point and is another good spot for art or something architectural.
