Do pool tables get damaged if they are kept in a garage?

Will a pool table be o.k. if it is left in a colder and damper place e.g. A garage.
I am thinking of buying a table not sure what size yet 6-9ft which may or not be slate bed.
Does it matter if it is a slate bed table if it is in an non insulated building?
Also could anybody suggest some good tables for under £500 (any size from 6-9ft)
Thanks

first of all, if you are buying a pool table, one with a slate bed would be the most preffered. non slate tables are generally crap! -they can, and will probably warp (especially in a cool, damp garage). plus they dont play as well as a proper slate table.

if you can put the table indoors, i would recommend doing so, but if you really have to put it in your garage i have a few things to point out.

the damp will get into the cloth and the cushions, and it will not play well. it may also get into the wood, causing that to warp, buckle, and even split.
if it is constantly damp, it may start to rot and grow mould.
the difference in temperatures in the garage can cause it to warp (daytimes it will be hot, night times it will be cold, summer, winter…etc)

to combat this, you would have to get a de-humidifier or even an air conditioner to remove the damp out of the garage, and regulate the temperature. -also, you may have to plug any gaps between inside and outside and insulate it.

as for the size of the table, choose the largest one you can fit in there.
remember you will need 5ft of space around the whole table to fit your cue in. eg, if your garage is 18ftX14ft, the maximum table size would be 8ftX4ft
