Can I use regular felt for Pool table felt installation?
I picked up a table for free, and thought I might replace the felt to make it look better. I have the table disassembled already and it would be easy. Can I use felt from a fabric store for the table or does it have to be ‘pool table’ felt?
Sorry, but no, felt from a fabric store will not work. It is a completely different material. Honestly, the cloth for a pool table is not actually felt. Its a wool. if you are looking for an inexpensive cloth, try champion cloth. There are companies on line that will sell it to you with free shipping and two boxes of chalk. I believe they may even give you directions on recovering it. Be very careful with the rails When you try to remove the cloth from the rails there is a thin piece of wood (feathering strip) which holds the cloth on. You want to be very very careful removing this so that you can reuse it. The rails will be the hardest part. If you haven’t done this before, you might want to consider hiring someone to recover and install the table for you, but that is just a suggestion.
